Irukkangudi dam project to be over by August

Minister inspects incomplete bridge work

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Irukkangudi reservoir programme is now scheduled for completion by August 2008, the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, said.

Inspecting the incomplete work of the construction of the Rs. 3.5-crore bridge linking Sattur with Irukkangudi on Monday, the Minister said that works worth Rs. 1.5 crore was over. Stating that adequate funds had been allocated to complete the work, he said that it would be completed by August. The works of the Rs. 74-crore-project like construction of dam for 1,850 metres and fixing 21 shutters to store 0.5 TMC of water was over. The dam would help irrigation for 1,345 hectares of ayacut under Melakarnadai, Kezhnattukurichi and Vadamalapuram tanks.

Tourism development works at a cost of Rs. 5 crore would be constructed in and around Irukkangudi.
