NAMAKKAL: Transport Commissioner C.P. Singh expressed satisfaction over the progress of the various development works being carried out in Namakkal district. Participating in the review meeting held here recently, he said that the district administration had taken up many works without causing any unnecessary delays. Officials told Mr. Singh at the meeting that the district was expected to cross the target fixed for small savings deposit collection. Out of 1.18 lakh television sets allotted to the district, the administration had distributed over 1.01 lakh TVs till date. The rest would be provided to the selected beneficiaries shortly. Officials also informed the participants at the meeting that the petitions seeking welfare assistance under various schemes, which were pending with various departments, would be cleared by the end of this month. Farmers in the district cultivated paddy in 22,229 hectares, millets in 1.21 lakh hectares, pulses in 20,020 hectares and oil seeds in 48,955 hectares. Farmers had also taken up sugarcane in 18,084 hectares and cotton in 3,329 hectares.
