PERAMBALUR: Tiruchi Enforcement Squad of the Madurai Enforcement Circle of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) during the course of a surprise check recently detected a case of theft of power by ‘direct hook’ from a temporary supply for construction purpose. The power theft had taken place at Poyyur distribution of Keelapalur section of Tiruchi North Electricity Distribution Circle, Perambalur. Due to the direct hook, the energy consumption was not recorded in the meter. The provisional assessment amount towards the loss sustained by the TNEB due to this illegal act works out to Rs. 1.85 lakh. The consumer concerned came forward to compound the case in lieu of criminal proceedings and remitted a sum of Rs. 8,000 due to which no police complaint was preferred, according to a press release of the Superintending Engineer, Tiruchi Electricity Distribution Circle, North, Perambalur, V. R. Geethnanthan. The people could forward the information regarding power theft to the Superintending Engineer, Enforcement, Madurai (mobile No. 94430 37508) and to the Executive Engineer, Enforcement, Tiruchi (94433 29851), the release added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
