Dial 139 for railway enquiries

VISAKHAPATNAM: The existing service 131 for railway train inquiries and 136 for reservation enquiries are proposed to be terminated from May 1, 2008 following the introduction of 139.

According to the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division in East Coast Railway, C. Venugopal, public from almost all places of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh can dial 139 from landline or mobile telephones of all service providers barring Reliance Smart for enquiries relating to train arrival and departure, status of booked reservation and reservation availability position.

It is part of the railway’s move to centralise railway enquiry system through all-India based call centre. The system would be effective as any enquiry on arrival and departure or PNR inquiry could be got over phone even from far off places like Delhi or Mumbai. Sources said the system is successfully functioning in metros.
