GANDHINAGAR: All the three BJP and a lone Congress candidate have been declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. With only four nominations filed for the four seats from the State to the Upper House falling vacant next month, all the four candidates were declared elected after their nomination papers were found in order in scrutiny on Wednesday. Among the successful BJP candidates was the party’s state unit president, Purshottam Rupala, considered to be a close confidant of the Chief Minister, Narendra Modi. He will be replacing the former chief minister, Keshubhai Patel. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
