Food for thought: Students get briefed about balanced diet at an exhibition organised as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Ethiraj College in Chennai on Tuesday.

CHENNAI: A two-day exhibition featuring models made by the students on various topics was organised here from Tuesday as part of Ethiraj College’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

The exhibition saw participants team up according to their branches of study such as humanities, management and languages. While students of physical sciences showcased exhibits pertaining to combating crime using science, those from the Humanities Department traced the human development in the country since Independence in various areas such as technology, health and banking. It provided an occasion for students of various departments to get a glimpse of the other subjects and concepts. Visitors to the Life Sciences Department were earnest listeners to the detailed account provided about the models, including those on organic farming and means to detect adulteration.

Another section that interested students was that of the nutrition and dietetics department, which had various dishes lined up for a healthy and ‘waist-friendly’ diet.

The theme of the exhibits put up by the students of the Languages Department was nature poetry of yesteryear and from the contemporary era. While those of Tamil Department displayed models of ‘Ainthinai’, the five landscapes described in Sangam literature, the English students depicted episodes from the works of Wordsworth, Emerson and 2003 Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee.

After a few hours of food for thought, the students headed to ‘Ethi Bazaar’ to snack on the mouth-watering dishes being sold.

The 35 stalls put up across the college premises bustled with activity, as students were involved in shopping products of their choice. Members of the Students’ Union said the amount collected from the bazaar would be used for the students’ welfare.

Inaugurating the exhibition, Chief Operating Officer of TANSTIA-FNF Service Centre D. Sabitha highlighted the importance of networking for entrepreneurs to succeed. College Principal and secretary M. Thavamani participated.
