Discussions to continue

NEW DELHI: Senior Indian Hockey Federation officials failed to arrive at a consensus about the role of Ric Charlesworth and the future of Joaquim Carvalho in the Indian hockey team at a meeting here on Wednesday.

Discussions are expected to continue on Thursday.

Sources said that the IHF president K.P.S. Gill was in favour of Carvalho continuing as the coach at least for the time being in view of the upcoming Azlan Shah tournament.

It is learnt that the Executive Committee members were in favour of accepting Carvalho’s resignation, which he announced immediately after the defeat to Britain in the final at the Olympic qualifier at Santiago.

On Charlesworth’s appointment, the IHF is waiting for the contract to be finalised to the satisfaction of all concerned. IHF and Union Sports Ministry officials are likely to have further discussions with Charlesworth on Thursday.
