Car gutted

VILLUPURAM: A Maruti car developed a snag and caught fire at Padiri near Tindivanam on Thursday. Driver R. Mani (52) of Pudhuthurai, Sirkazhi, told the police that car owner G. Prabhakaran (35) of Maduravoyil in Chennai and his family members were travelling to Sirkazhi.

At Padirikuppam he noticed smoke from the engine. He stopped the vehicle and opened the bonnet. As the smoke engulfed the car, he told all the others to get down.

As soon as they got down, the car went up in flames.
