Flood protection work along Cauvery and Coleroon

CHENNAI: Good news for those who live along the Cauvery and the Coleroon: the Government has decided to put up permanent flood barriers in Karur, Tiruchi, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts at a cost of Rs.211 crore.

Of the five government engineering colleges to be set up in the State, one each will be set up in Nagapattinam and Ramanathapuram, said Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan, presenting the budget for 2008-09.

Also, the Government will set up two medical colleges – one in Perambalur and another in Sivaganga. In addition, one of the two nursing schools will be attached to the Theni Medical College.

The Government has proposed to modernise the cement plant at Alangulam.
