Holi, Navroz, Milad greetings

Holi imbues the spirit of friendship in people of all faiths: Pratibha Patil

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led the nation in greeting the people on the occasion of Holi and Navroz.

Holi, the festival of colours, brings joy and happiness and imbues the spirit of friendship in people of all faiths. Everyone should ensure that the less advantaged do not remain untouched by the spirit of the celebrations, Ms. Patil said on Friday.

The Prime Minister said the festival symbolised different shades of life and inspired all to rejoice in the glory of nature in its varied colours. “May the festival bring gaiety, happiness, health and prosperity to all.”

Celebrating diversity

Greeting the Parsi community on the occasion of Navroz, New Year of Zoroastrians, Dr. Singh said, “The festival is an occasion to celebrate the diversity of our country. It marks a new beginning and inspires us to rejoice in the spirit of harmony and goodwill.”

The President and the Vice-President greeted the people on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, observed on Friday.

“On the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, I convey my greetings to all my countrymen,” Ms. Patil said in a message. “The message of Prophet Muhammad Sahib has great relevance in today’s world. May his teaching of universal love, service to humanity and compassion inspire us all to lead righteous lives.”

Vice-President Mohd. Hamid Ansari said Prophet Muhammad showed us the “glorious path of righteousness, compassion, brotherhood and tolerance. Milad-un-Nabi is an occasion for remembering the life, teachings and example of Prophet Muhammad.
