Mumbai: Suspected Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists on Saturday night assaulted four North Indians here. According to a complainant, a group of 8-10 persons asked the victims in the Juhu Kokliwada area at Santacruz where they hailed from. When they said they were from Bihar, the group hit them with bamboo sticks and punched them, said a senior police officer. A case of rioting had been registered, the police officer said, adding a passer-by was also injured in the incident. The complainant works as a driver and all the victims stay in the same locality. No arrests had been made in this connection. The incident comes more than a month after MNS chief Raj Thackeray had launched a diatribe against the North Indians, many of whom had borne the brunt of violence by MNS activists. MNS functionThe MNS will organise a function here on Monday on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary. But it is unclear whether Mr. Thackeray will address the function. “It is not yet clear whether he will speak,” MNS spokesperson Shirish Parkar told PTI. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
