Panchkula: Medium pacer Thiru Kumaran bagged four wickets to help Chennai Superstars crush Mumbai Champs by nine wickets in a Twenty20 match of the ICL here on Sunday. Electing to bat first, Champs was all out for a modest 123 in 19.5 overs. Its top order batsmen W. S. Jayantha (11), Ravi Raj Patil (16) and skipper Nathan Astle (17) failed to convert good starts into big scores. Opener D. S. Jadhav, who was run out on 28, was the top scorer for the Champs which has been pushed to the bottom of the points table after Sunday’s loss. Jayantha, wicketkeeper Subhojit Paul (21), J. J. van Der Wath (1) and T.L. Best (0) were dismissed by Kumaran. In reply, Superstars surpassed the target with 44 balls to spare with G. Vignesh top-scoring with 61 while former Australia ODI player Ian Harvey and R. Sathish remaining not out on 31 and 29 respectively. Superstars is now placed second in the points table behind Lahore Badshahs, having won three of the six matches it had played so far.
