Special battalion for VIP cover

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide effective security cover to VIPs and important institutions, the Orissa Government is planning to form a special battalion soon, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Monday.

A formal proposal for the formation of the proposed special security battalion comprising 800 personnel was being sent to the Centre very soon, he informed the State Assembly while responding to queries about security for VIPs and VVIPs.

The battalion would also address the problem arising out of naxalite activities in some parts of the state, the Chief Minister said. PTI
