It will also have one provost flat, two warden and two resident tutors’ flats Construction is likely to be completed by September 30, 2009 NEW DELHI: The Union Tribal Affairs Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with Delhi University and the Union Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DONER) for setting up a hostel for 500 girls exclusively from the North-East, including Sikkim. Energy-efficient buildingThe hostel, to be set up at the Dhaka Hostel Complex of Delhi University, will have all modern facilities including an energy-efficient building, solar water heating and rainwater harvesting. Besides blocks for 500 students, the hostel will have one provost flat, two warden flats, two resident tutors’ flats and 12 servants’ quarters. Construction is expected to be completed by September 30, 2009. Of the approved construction cost of Rs.23.33 crore, 40 per cent will be shared by the Tribal Affairs Ministry and the remainder by DONER. The Tribal Affairs Ministry has already released Rs.2.6 crore in the first week of March from its share. The land for the hostel will be provided by the University as per the University Grants Commission norms. The committeeA committee comprising representatives of the Tribal Affairs Ministry, DONER and Delhi University will regularly monitor the progress of construction works and meet at least every quarter for inspection and to discuss related issues to ensure timely completion of the project. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
