NEW DELHI: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Tuesday reiterated that he would resign if violence continued in Tibet and indicated his disapproval of attacks on other Chinese people.

He said “just wait” when asked about the way the Tibetan crisis was heading.

The Dalai Lama said: “I have always made it clear that the expression of deep emotion should be in control. If it is out of control, we have no option. If the violent demonstrations continue, I will resign,” he told journalists here.

“I have always respected the Chinese people and Chinese communism. Even most of the Tibetan protesters are ideologically Communists. I think inside or outside China, if demonstrators use violent methods, I am totally against it,” he said.

The Dalai Lama is here for a meditation workshop.

He came on March 21, the day a group of Tibetan protesters entered the compound of the Chinese embassy.

India expresses regret

PTI reports:

New Delhi has conveyed its regret to Beijing over the storming of the Chinese embassy in New Delhi by a group of Tibetan protesters last week. It said appropriate security measures would be taken at the embassy, informed sources said.

China had voiced its concern over the incident and sought stepped up security at the mission.

China, which was appreciative of the security, has raised questions over how the Tibetan protesters managed to enter the embassy complex despite the heavy presence of the Delhi Police outside.
