Property tax: official asked to clarify

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed an official of the Department of Municipal Administration to be present in court on Wednesday and explain the rationale behind assessing property tax in municipalities.

The municipalities had assessed the property tax based on the stamp duty of a building or land. The Bench sought to know whether it would be better if a minimum and maximum slab was fixed for assessing tax.
