“Create separate section to protect water”

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Environment Council, a 16-year-old Dindigul-based organisation specialising in environmental issues, on Tuesday demanded creation of a separate department — Ministry of Protection of Water and Water Resources.

Speakers at a demonstration here demanded that the State Government consider a river basin from the upper reaches to the confluence point in the sea as a composite unit and take steps for protecting the ecosystem covered by the basin. It should make efforts for proper management of natural resources.
