NEW DELHI: Asserting that the educational demands of the Christian community would be protected, the Supreme Council of St. Stephen’s College here said the institution would not alter the preference policy for Christian students and would adhere to the law so far as other reservations are concerned. In a statement, Supreme Council chairman Sunil Kumar Singh, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Delhi, said the Christian character of the college would “not be compromised”. While he allayed fears that the preference policy for Christian students for admission to the institution would not be changed, he did not spell out how the college would deal with the issue of reservation for Dalit Christians as announced by the former Principal Valson Thampu. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
