“Globalisation, assault on nation’s pluralism”

Special Correspondent

COIMBATORE: The nation’s pluralistic character is sought to be bulldozed by globalisation, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat said here on Friday.

Inaugurating an exhibition of photographs on the history of the party and various socio-economic issues, she said imperialist forces were trying to invade the country’s markets and the people’s minds.

As this affected the co-existence of various sections, it was time to stop through a socialist approach such an assault on the nation’s pluralism.

Emphasising such an approach, Ms. Karat pointed out that the CPI (M) had returned to power for the fourth time in Tripura. There was no anti-incumbency factor because the CPI (M) Government had pursued alternative policies that benefited all sections of society. Such policies were the party’s strength and the cause for its success.

Ms. Karat assailed organisations whose approach led to the suppression of women in the name of culture.

CPI (M) State secretary N. Varadarajan lamented the prevalence of untouchability and suppression of women. The party would strengthen its movement in the State against these social evils.
