Canara Bank to meet Army XI

BANGALORE: Canara Bank and Army XI set up a title clash in the Travancore Cup hockey tournament with contrasting wins in the semifinals played here on Friday.

Canara Bank beat Karnataka State Police after a desperate battle, with Sunil Benjamin (38th) scoring first for Canara Bank. The second half was made interesting with Rajshekar (51st) restoring parity for the State Police. Vipin Bopaiah (55th) produced the match winner for Canara Bank.

In the second semifinal, Army XI beat Pioneer Corps Training Centre 5-3. Chittaranjan Singh (15th), Banti Singh (30th and 35th) and Eliazar Lakra (33rd and 40th) scored for Army XI. Kujur (22nd), S. Kujur (31st) and Mundu (66th) scored for PCTC.

The final will be played on Saturday.
