Delhi heading for acute water crisis: BJP

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has charged that 50 per cent of the Capital is facing an acute water crisis because of Haryana not releasing Delhi’s share of water.

The BJP leader said though people were now paying higher water bills, they were not getting adequate water.

Yamuna level

The water level of the Yamuna too has receded sharply from around 674.5 feet to 672.5 feet ahead of summer, he said.

Dr. Vardhan said the Delhi Government had proved to be too soft on Haryana. Making a mention of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the water crisis, the BJP leader said following the meeting it was claimed that the Haryana Government had released more water for Delhi. This, he charged, was a lie as the water level of the Yamuna had been declining constantly.
