Trying their hand: Two students reading the handbook in Tirunelveli. TIRUNELVELI: Perhaps for the first time in the State, a Braille handbook to create awareness of consumerism among visually challenged students was released here on Friday. Collector G. Prakash released the handbook jointly prepared by District Supplies Office, Department of Consumer Protection, District Rehabilitation Office and Tirunelveli District Consumer Protection Forum. When two visually challenged students, a boy and a girl, and a hearing impaired boy read a portion from the handbook without any hiccup, the Collector was really thrilled. “I congratulate the teachers, who took so much pain to train these differently-abled children so efficiently, and also the students whose hard work has paid rich dividends. The awareness they can gain after reading this handbook and the enormous confidence they already have will certainly expedite their personality development,” the Collector said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
