BJP seeks probe into land deals

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded a judicial inquiry into land scams, especially the one pertaining to 2,000 acres acquired for development of Gangavaram port in Visakhapatnam. It also demanded return of all lands acquired for development of the special economic zone (SEZ) in Visakhapatnam following revelations made in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

At a press conference here BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya wanted either Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy or Finance Minister K. Rosaiah to own moral responsibility for the CAG’s ‘indictment’ of the Government in land scams. He pointed out that the way the Government dealt with the disclosure, it only meant that it had scant respect for constitutional bodies like the CAG. He wanted the Government to debate on the CAG report in the Assembly.

On separate Telangana issue, Mr. Dattatreya demanded the Left parties to pressurise the UPA for tabling a Bill in the Parliament.
