Cement concrete (CC) roads have been laid in many streets and lanes of Eluru Municipal Corporation (EMC). The roads in lanes have been laid at a level higher than that of main roads, while culverts too are at a higher level than the road surface. Engineers of the EMC have not paid attention to see to it that proper levels are maintained at these places. The junction at Ganganamma Gudi School of West Street in One Town particularly stands like a monument. Gravel is dumped on the CC roads to give access to the residents to their houses. The Superintending Engineer of the EMC is requested to inspect the works and take steps to reduce inconvenience to the residents. Mohd. Nazeeruddin Gandhi Maidan, Eluru Exam centres in district headquartersWith a view to filling the vacancies in various government departments, the authorities have been calling for applications from the eligible candidates. Since unemployment is rampant, more and more candidates are applying for the jobs and preparing for the examinations. However, the examinations are being conducted in select cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. Because of this, the unemployed are facing several difficulties, as they are forced to make most expensive trips to reach the examination centres. I request the authorities concerned to notify all district headquarters in the State as examination centres, which will help the unemployed youth a lot. I. Subhash Samuel Ulavapadu, Prakasam district SSC students in piquant situation SSC English medium students were flabbergasted and even puzzled to see two questions given in the composite course Telugu paper-I on the very first day of the examination on March 24. The questions were deleted from the syllabus set for the SSC board common examinations. Nearly two lakh students appeared for the examination and they were in a state of confusion whether they will lose all the eight marks – six for one question and two for another. Is it not the responsibility of the paper setters to have a clear idea of the syllabus? I presume this error will definitely come under dereliction of duties of the paper setter and he/she must be taken to task. Banda Nageswara Rao Chirala, Prakasam district Help petty tradersIn the wake of sops announced by the Government to the farmers, particularly waiver of crop loans, I wonder how far it is justifiable to spend huge public money for political purposes? The farmers need help from the Government in different forms, and the waiver of loans is certainly not a good idea. The waiver helps only farmers and not farm labourers. Loan waiver will set a bad precedent and collection of loans in the future will become very difficult. Instead, the Government can help petty traders and unemployed youth by diverting the money to different schemes. A. Venkaiah Kavali, Nellore district © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
