Sun Sports Club emerges champion

Dindigul: Sun Sports Club emerged champion in the Dindigul District Football Association ‘A’ division league and lifted the SPD Tools Trophy defeating Solar FC, Nilakottai 2-1 in the last match of the league here on Sunday.

Solar finished runner-up.

In the ‘B’ division, G.S. Football Club beat Arasan FC 1-0 to win the GS Trophy.

Arasan was the runner-up.

The results:

‘A’ division: Sun SC 2 (Rajalingam, Satheesh) bt Solar, Nilakottai 1 (Murugan).

‘B’ division: GS FC 1 (Prabu) bt Arasan 0.

Kalaivanar takes title

Kalaivanar FC (K. Palaiyur) took the honours in the Sivagangai DFA ‘B’ division football league defeating Amaravathi Pudur Football 3-1 at Karaikudi on Sunday.

Kalaivanar (25 points) maintained an unbeaten record to emerge the champion. A few matches still remain to be played, but no other team can reach 25 points.

Easy for TCE

Thiagarajar College of Engineering posted an emphatic 6-1 win over Pandian Saraswathy Yadava Engineering College in the MDFA ‘B’ division football league at Madurai on Sunday.

‘B’ division: Bosco XI 1 (Rengasamy) bt Victoria 0; TCE 6 (Sujith 2, Paralian 2, Simbe, Shang) bt PSYC 1 (Jegannathan); Temple City 3 (Thirumal 2, Nagrorkain) bt MSSWB College 0.

Bright Star triumphs

Bright Star FC won the M.K.M. Banu memorial trophy defeating Nehru Youth FC 4-1 in the last match of the Tirunelveli DFA super-league at Palayamkottai on Sunday.

Bright Star emerged champion with an all-win record (9 points) while St. Xavier’s College (Palayamkottai) with six points finished second.

Big win for IOB

Indian Overseas Bank beat Melapalayam Education Trust by 151 runs in the Canara Bank-TDCA first division cricket league at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores:

IOB 251 in 37.5 overs (Sankarasubbu 55) bt MET 100 in 24.3 overs (Saifullah 44).

Majestic 158 for nine in 30 overs bt Lightning 149 in 27.2 overs (Saravanan 69).

No sweat for GTN

GTN Arts College registered an eight-wicket win over Arulmigu Palaniandavar Arts College (Palani) in the Dindigul District inter-collegiate cricket league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores:

APA 117 for seven in 20 overs (M. Abdur Rahim 44) lost to GTN College 119 for two in 17.2 overs (S. Ram Kumar 52, N. Murugesan 42).

APA (Palani) 121 for nine in 20 overs (S. Madhan four for 14) bt PVP 98 in 17.2 overs.
