GURGAON: A variety of incidents over the past week have resulted in Gurgaon losing the right to host the scheduled second and third final of the Edelweiss 20s Challenge to Hyderabad. This venue in the National Capital Region was due to host the second final on April 6 and the third one, if required, on April 7. But incidents of indecent behaviour from a section of the crowd, lack of adequate security and the high-handed nature of some civic authorities have all forced this change. On the brighter side, the crowd response at Hyderabad has been the best so far for the ICL matches played at three venues. The matches involving Lahore Badshahs or Hyderabad Heroes, in particular, have brought a large number of spectators to the southern venue. Although the ICL is committed to host matches in the future at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium here, sources reveal that unless unconditional commitment of increased security for players and property is given by the authorities and better crowd control measures are promised, there will be a question mark over the hosting of games at this venue. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
