SBI triumphs

CHENNAI: SBI defeated Tamil Nadu Special Police 8-5 in the final to win the John Joseph trophy tie-breaker football tournament organised by the Chennai Football Association at the Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

Eight CFA senior division teams had taken part in this one-day tournament. Expectedly, it was an event where the focus was much on the goalkeepers and SBI’s Abdul Kareem came up best with his saves under the bar.

Semifinals: TSP bt ICF 8-6; SBI bt Madras Sporting Union 11-10.

Quarterfinals: ICF bt Nethaji 8-6; TSP bt Arrows 8-7; SBI bt SAI 9-8; MSU bt Chennai Customs 7-4.
