Hindustan to clash with SSN in final

CHENNAI: Hindustan defeated Sri Venkateswara by 54 runs in a semifinal match of the SSN rolling trophy State-level inter-engineering college cricket tournament held here.

In the other semifinal, SSN beat College of Engineering (Guindy) by 102 runs.

The scores (semifinals): SSN 189 for five in 20 overs (S. Arvind 62, S. Anand 42) bt College of Engineering (Guindy) 87 for five in 20 overs.

Hindustan 142 for seven in 20 overs (Dinesh 46) bt Sri Venkateswara 88 in 18.4 overs.

KRC posts win

Krishnaraj RC scripted an eight-wicket win over Mani Memorial in the Kancheepuram District Cricket Association’s 19th Seshadri memorial Cup tournament held here.

The scores: Mani Memorial 113 for nine in 30 overs (C. Gopinath four for 15) lost to Krishnaraj 114 for two in 22.1 overs.

The Hindu Trophy

The Hindu Trophy cricket tournament, open to industrial and commercial houses, banks and government organisations, will be held in the third week of April. Entry forms for the tournament should reach the office of the TNCA on or before April 12.

Forms may be collected from the TNCA office on any working day between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Rafath beats Pranit

2002 Busan Asian Games gold medallist Rafath Habib of Southern Railway defeated J. Pranit (TNBSA) 18-64, 58-28, 75-15, 74-24, 49-51, 86-01 in a pre-quarterfinal match of the John W. Roberts invitation snooker tournament at Madras United Club here on Monday.

The pair of Rambajekal and B. Ravi (plus 1 on better back nine) was placed runner-up.

Chennai district chess

The Chennai district chess championship for the A.N. Parasuram memorial rolling trophy will be held from April 12 to 17, (seniors, U-13, and U-17) at the Hall of Chess, Nehru stadium, Chennai. Only CDCA registered players can take part.

Entry fee for seniors is Rs. 150 and for under-13 and 17 Rs. 100. The CDCA registration for the year 2008-09 is Rs. 60.

Chess coaching
