Krishnagiri: A complete facelift would be given to 67 primary schools and 10 middle schools in Krishnagiri district under the panchayat union school renovation scheme. The State Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 419.53 lakh for renovation of schools, Collector Santhosh Babu has said. This scheme would be implemented for the next three years in all Government primary and middle schools at villages selected under the Anaithu Gramam Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT). The works include whitewashing of school buildings, repair of damaged roofs and floors, windowpanes, replacement of tiles and plaster of damaged walls. A committee consisting of the respective panchayat president, headmaster, Assistant Elementary Educational Officer, panchayat union engineer, block development officer and panchayat union council member would select the works and prepare the estimate based on priority. The Collector and Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) would inspect the schools at regular intervals and would also verify the estimate costs to ensure proper selection of works. The renovation works would be completed in all panchayat union primary and middle schools in Dharmapuri district by 2008-09, Mr. Babu added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
