Anantapur Collector orders trimming of traffic islands

ANANTAPUR: Collector N. Sridhar went round several areas in the district headquarters town on Wednesday as part of the ‘Clean Anantha’ programme and directed the officials to remove encroachments along the roads which are obstructing the free movement of vehicular traffic. He also instructed downsizing some traffic islands as they were found too obstructive to the free movement of traffic.

Accompanied by officials from Municipal, Revenue, Police, Town Planning, Transco, Roads and Buildings, Mayor R. Parasuram and others, the Collector had a brisk visit of the town from 6 to 8.30 a.m. He also suggested several measures to make Anantapur clean and green.

Collection of garbage from every household, setting up traffic signals at 10 locations and beautification of 10 traffic islands with water fountains and others have already been initiated by the Collector. Sulabh green toilet complexes had also been proposed at 10 places.

Downsizing traffic signal

The Collector suggested downsizing the traffic island between Sapthagiri Circle and Rajiv Gandhi Circle, shifting of electricity poles there, trimming the traffic island at Tower Clock Circle, pushing the Lepakshi showroom compound back, shifting of electricity poles obstructing traffic movement near the new municipal shopping complex, removal of traffic island from Tower Clock and constructing a divider.

On finding the fruit traders and push cart vendors occupying the road on the way to Tadipatri bus stand, the Collector instructed the officials to allocate some portion of the old DM&HO’s office there and shift the traders there. He also directed the officials to remove encroachments in the Old Town and inaugurate the new bridge constructed in place of Iron Bridge over Maruvavanka connecting the Old Town and New Town within a month.
