In-charge DEO streamlines SSC exam conduct; training sessions for headmasters, teachers

In-charge DEO invokes Act 25 of 1977

Act deals with curbing malpractice in exams

ADILABAD: School education in Adilabad district is in for an overhaul given the current developments and those planned by the department for implementation in immediate future.

The idea is to rectify the paradoxical phenomenon of the district being one of the top most in the State in terms of SSC pass percentage despite the educational standard of the students being one of the lowest, according to experts.

Appointment of Laxma Reddy, Warangal Regional Joint Director (RJD), School Education, as in-charge District Educational Officer (DEO) in February has made things look up. For starters, he has streamlined the conduct of SSC exams to a great extent this year. He has also planned training sessions for ‘continuing education’ and school administration for headmasters and teachers before the commencement of next academic year.

“Exams should be conducted as exams are supposed to be,” he observed while in conversation with The Hindu. He invoked Act 25 of 1977 to achieve what he felt is better for the future of students in particular and education in the district in general.

“The Act, which deals with curbing malpractice in exams for smooth conduct was explained to officials concerned before hand,” Mr. Reddy pointed out.

203 cases

So far 203 cases of malpractice have been booked including two cases of impersonation, 122 teachers were relieved of invigilation duties and six others were suspended for aiding malpractice under the Act.

The conclusion that things are improving is based upon such action and the subsequent feedback that is being received by the department. Many parents called the DEO to inform him that being ‘strict’ has forced their wards to actually prepare for the exams. Najmuddin Arshad from Chennur dropped in a post card to congratulate the DEO on the way exams are being conducted.
