City residents were witness to an amusing sight as they hit the roads on April 1 – All Fools Day. It being a ‘Traffic rule violation free day’, all the traffic policemen were seen holding placards which asked people to adhere to traffic rules and thereby avoid being a fool. It was also refreshing to see violators being counselled by suave people from corporate companies and voluntary organisations, instead of being punished with fine. Those who missed the sight can have repeated encores on the first day of every month which would be observed as violation free day. However, what remains to be seen is whether the incorrigible Hyderabadi will come round through mere counselling and mend his ways. Chances are that he will fool the police annas themselves by avoiding helmet and flouting rules on every such day as there would be no fine. SWATHI .V © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
