ADILABAD: Babu Jagjivan Ram’s 101 birth anniversary was celebrated with much gusto in Adilabad on Saturday as Dalit organisation took out a rally on the occasion. Collector Ahmad Nadeem, Municipal Chairman Digambar Rao Patil and Adilabad Agriculture Market Committee Chairman Yasam Narsing Rao participated in the official function. Tributes were first paid at the Social Welfare building where the portrait of Jagjivan Ram was garlanded followed by garlanding of his portrait near bus stand. The statue of the departed leader near White Quarters junction was garlanded by the Collector and other dignitaries before the rally converted into a public meeting at the same venue. Speakers eulogised the leader from Dalit community for his role in building the nation and as a benefactor of Dalits. They vowed to work for achieving his ideals. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
