New Delhi: Two labourers, who were sleeping on the pavement, were run over by a PWD vehicle in the Capital in the wee hours, police said. Dharamchand (22) and Sohil (22), who were working for a contractor for MTNL, were sleeping on the pavement near their workplace in Keshav Chowk of Welcome area, they said. They were engaged in the work of replacing cable of MTNL in the area and were asked to stay at the workplace to prevent robbery of cables. A PWD dumper, allegedly driven by one Sanjay who hails from Assam, ran over them at around 12:30 am as the driver did not see them sleeping there, police said, adding he “buried” the duo in mud out of fear. The other workers who came in the morning discovered that both Dharamchand and Sohil were buried under the mud. However, police could not find Sanjay and he is suspected to have been escaped to Assam. A team has been sent to Assam to nab him.- PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
