NEW DELHI: The Centre for Culture, Media and Governance at Jamia Millia Islamia is keen on enhancing integration and development of interdisciplinary research into the media in India and South Asia. Two new programmes are envisaged by the Centre to contribute towards examining and developing new approaches and create an archive of media research data for researchers across South Asia. From the coming new academic year, the Centre will start two new courses: M.A. in Media Governance and a Ph.D. programme. “The M.A. programme draws on the Centre’s expertise in the field of communication; Jamia’s growing initiatives in specialised post-graduate teaching and research; and its location in New Delhi, the node of policy research in South Asia,” said a University spokesperson. Exploring a series of established institutions, organisations and practices as well as interventions by corporate, citizen and social networks, the course will examine issues pertaining to the inner workings and outer configurations of the media. The course will be relevant to students seeking opportunities in public institutions, national/local/para-governmental organisations, advocacy and training groups, non-governmental and multi-lateral organisations and apex industry bodies. The number of seats for the M.A. programme that follows a semester system is 25. The course is also open to under-graduate students. The Centre also offers an inter-disciplinary Ph.D. programme that will cover all aspects of contemporary media, culture and governance with a special focus on India and South Asia. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
