Traffic woes

The railway level crossing at the Eluru Gun Bazaar centre was closed, and the construction of rail over bridge is still on. People are facing hardship, as the traffic on this road is diverted to other narrow roads. The railway authorities are requested to complete the construction works at the earliest. It will help the One Town people reach the railway station easily. Besides, traffic congestion on other roads would also be solved.

Old-age homes

Newspapers now and then are reporting about the plight of the aged living under the shade of avenue trees, as their children are not looking after them. The State and Central Governments should maintain homes for the aged in every district. The funds required for such activity could be raised from philanthropists. Governments should also provide food, shelter and medical facilities to the aged at these homes.

Passengers in quandary

Of late, with the formation of New Guntur railway station in the South Central Railway, some trains, including express trains, are running via Guntur. But the exact location of this new station has not been notified in the south zone time-tables. Because of its distance from Guntur city, passengers who alight and board the trains, especially during midnight, are being subjected to misery. Therefore, the railway authorities should take cognisance of the facts mentioned above and initiate steps. I. Subhash Samuel

Burden on exchequer

It is inevitable to change the laws and make it mandatory that a candidate should not contest immediately after resigning to the post of MLA or MP. Even if some people want to contest in by-polls, the Government should recover the expenses of by-elections from the candidates who had resigned, as they are responsible for the financial burden on exchequer. The parliamentarians should think on this issue seriously.
