Caught: Food cell police inspecting the rice bags seized in Krishnagiri on Sunday.

Krishnagiri: The food cell police seized 60 bags of rice worth Rs.1 lakh meant for supply under the Public Distribution System, which was being smuggled in a lorry here on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team was conducting vehicle checks at Varamalagunda when it intercepted a lorry and seized the rice bags.

The lorry was going from Tirupathur to Mallanur for sale and subsequent polishing of the rice in the open market.

One person was arrested in this connection. The lorry was handed over to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

The food cell police have registered a case.

Further investigations are on.
