Is Telangana for Telugus?

History says that Telangana agitations were taking place not really for the separation of Telugunadu comprising three distinct regions. The first agitation started in April 1969 for job reservations but turned violent to demand a separate state. The swiftness with which events turned clearly indicated that disgruntled politicians jumped into fray to further their political interests. Added to the above was the non-Telugu business interests as people from coastal districts menacingly advancing to take over business. This sparked off counter agitation in coastal districts on the plank that funds from coastal districts was being spent in Telangana region. It was alleged that surplus funds of Telangana estimated anywhere between Rs.20 crores and Rs.200 crores. These surplus funds of Nizam at the time of formation of Andhra Pradesh to which were added surpluses of revenue over expenditure of Telangana region. The revenue surplus arose because there was no prohibition in Telangana region while the rest of the State had prohibition. If economic uplift in naxal-infested areas is taken up on fast track, Telangana can develop. In view of this, any sane and dispassionate judge will decree for a united Andhra. I think Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao who craves for progress will certainly see reason and with draw the demand for separate Telangana. United, we are strong.

Welcome news

It is welcome news that hereafter the Kakinada-Chennai Circar Express trains will start and terminate at Egmore instead of Chennai Central. There is need to make Egmore starting point for some other trains also. Beach station is another alternative as Egmore and Beach are composite stations where local trains touch, are convenient to disembark for passengers to Chennai.

For a cutting edge

The EPDCL is providing excellent services to its customers, which was not the case a decade ago. However, to further improve its services, I wish to suggest measures such as tree branch cutting by EPDCL should become a quick process, without consumers not having to put up with power cuts. High tech equipment like hand operated chain saws, and hydraulically operated insulated ladder mounted on four-wheeler tippers would help in doing away the manual process presently being undertaken, which is not only time consuming but also causes loss of revenue to the corporation. The manual process is not only labour intensive, but also involves grave risk to the tree climber, and is time consuming when power disruption goes on for 2 to 3 hours at a stretch, dislocating house hold chores for the housewives.

Park or public toilet?

The park in front of our homes in Sector 12 of MVP Colony is used as a public lavatory by people in the area. They throw garbage, cattle dung and other wastes which emanate stench and pose health hazard. Quite a few have been suffering for the last two decades and I appeal to the authorities concerned to take steps to clear the park site and hand it over to the local residents for better maintenance.
