No sparing drunken driving: Medak SP

Staff Reporter

Regular vigil favoured on drivers with the help of breath analysers

Sangareddy: Medak Superintendent of Police S. Mohammad Iqbal, who took charge from his predecessor R.B. Nayak at the police headquarters on Monday, said that he would concentrate on curbing accidents on the highways due to drunken driving.

Thorough study

Speaking to The Hindu, he said that a thorough study is required on the dimensions of the accidents in the district. Mr. Iqbal said that the best option would be to stop drunken drivers from venturing on the busy highway in an inebriated condition posing danger to themselves and also to other vehicles. He said that he would encourage a regular vigil on the drivers with the help of breath analysers. He warned that anyone found driving while drunk would not be spared.

Commenting on his previous assignment as DCP of the Central zone in Hyderabad and his plans for Medak district, Mr. Iqbal said that it has been hectic, but a challenging task as DCP but he would not undermine the work in a district.

“As SP in Medak I need to look into different dimensions like the highways, industries, Maoists and land-related crime,” he said. He said that he would also concentrate on the rehabilitation of misguided youth in the Naxal prone mandals with the help of the Remote and Backward Area Development programme. Earlier, the new SP was given a warm welcome by the police headquarters staff. Before officially taking charge, Mr. Iqbal met the men on sentry duty and other staff.
