Praneeth wins title

HYDERABAD: K. Praneeth Surya, with four points, won the boys’ under-15 title in the A2H Chess Academy junior and sub-junior chess tournament held at Kennedy School (Kukatpally) here.

In the crucial final round, Praneeth outwitted international and top-seeded N. Krishna Teja to emerge winner.

Final placings: Boys: Under-15: 1. K. Praneeth Surya, 2. Prateek Srivastava 3. A. Aditya, 4. P. S. Varaprasad, 5. Srikanth. Under-10: 1. Jai Sai Agni, 2. J. Karthik, 3. Prathyush Srivastava, 4. K. Anirudh, 5. M. Srinivas.

Girls: Under-15: 1. K. N. Meher Sowjanya, 2. L. Sravani. Under-10: 2. Deepa Mandal, 2. Sharyu.

SCR triumphs

South Central Railway won the City College Old Boys prize-money football tournament with a 4-2 victory, via tie-breaker, over State Bank of Hyderabad at the Quli Qutub Shahi Stadium here on Monday.

With the teams locked goalless at the end of regulation time, the tie-breaker rule was applied. Alfred, Murali, Andrews and Md. Azeem scored for SCR, while Khaleel and Prakash were successful for SBH.

Asaduddin Owaisi, MP, gave away the prizes, while Ahmed Pasha Quadri, MLA, was the guest of honour.

Aloysius in selection committee

Former Olympian and Indian hockey captain Aloysius Edwards has been invited as a member of the Indian Hockey Federation’s selection committee to pick the Indian team for the four-nation tournament in Australia from April 23 and the Azlan Shah tournament at Kuala Lumpur in May.

The Punjab & Sind Bank manager will be a part of the selection process during the coaching camp at Bangalore from April 8, according to P. Kanthaiah, Secretary, Hyderabad Hockey Association.
