The usually busy areas in the town wore a deserted look TINDIVANAM: The shops and commercial establishments here remained closed on Tuesday to condemn the recent attacks on Tamils in Karnataka on the Hogenakkal issue. The usually busy areas such as the Nehru Street, Gandhi statue circle, Eswaran Koil Street and Kamatchi Amman Koil Street wore a deserted look. However, both the private and government bus services operated on schedule. The traders stated that though Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi had called for a truce on the Hogenakkal issue they had to register their protest on the mindless violence unleashed on Tamils and their organisations, including the cinema houses screening Tamil movies. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
