Deepak stars in Globstar’s victory

KOCHI: Off-spinner Deepak Murali picked four wickets for 12 runs as Globstar Telecom CC (Aluva) shocked BPCL Kochi Refinery by six wickets on their home ground at Ambalamugal and entered the quarterfinals of the second Muthoot Pappachan Foundation Twenty20 cricket tournament on Tuesday.

In other matches Cycle Brand Kids drubbed Aluva CC and progressed to the quarterfinals, while Cordiant Tripunithura CC ‘B’ defeated Perinthalmanna’s Jolly Rovers by 13 runs and entered the pre-quarterfinals.

The scores: BPCL Kochi Refinery (Ambalamugal) 99 in 18.1 overs (V. Vineeth 34, Deepak Murali four for 12) lost to Globstar Telecom (Aluva) 105 for four in 18.5 overs (V.S. Shinu 38 n.o.).

Cordiant TCC ‘B’ (Tripunithura) 129 in 19.4 overs (Prem 39) bt Jolly Rovers (Perinthalmanna) 116 for seven in 20 overs.

Aluva CC 107 in 18.2 overs (Jojo 30, Kannan three for 30, Sajan three for seven) lost to Cycle Brand Kids (Thiruvananthapuram) 108 for three in 13.2 overs.

Monday’s matches: Globstar Telecom 213 for five in 20 overs (V.S. Shiju 47, N.J. John 37, Bharathi 36, Varun 31) bt Giri Pai Sharon CC (Ernakulam) 83 in 17.2 overs (Sanith three for 15, Deepak Murali three for zero).

Aluva CC 168 for seven in 20 overs (Shamir 47, Biju 44) bt Muthoot ECC (Ernakulam) 117 in 16.2 overs (Sumesh four for 15, Sharafuddin three for 25).

Murugans CC 182 for eight in 20 overs (Vinod 57, Mahesh 49, Narayanan three for 30) vs. MYCA (Mattancherry) 182 for nine in 20 overs (Rohit 57, Rakesh 32, Srijith three for 32). Match tied; Murugan CC, which lost fewer wickets, was declared the winner.

Ernakulam district team selection trials

Trials to select the Ernakulam district under-16 cricket team will be held at the Century Club Cricket nets, St. Albert’s College ground (near Nehru Stadium in Kaloor), at 3 p.m. on April 10.

Players, born on or after September 1, 1992, can report at the venue at 2 p.m. with age certificates and in full cricket gear.
