Jaipur from the inside and outside

An exhibition of new works of art titled “Inside OUT, Outside IN” organised by Jaipur Virasat Foundation is now on at Open Palm Court Gallery of India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Curated by Alka Pande, it is open for viewing up to April 16.

There has traditionally been a focus on architecture, paintings, museums and heritage of Jaipur. The city has become the subject of inspiration for artists whose works have been brought together for the exhibition.

“In keeping with the spirit, the Jaipur Virasat Foundation has embarked on a journey of bringing to Delhi Rajasthan as it has never been seen before. ‘Inside OUT, Outside IN’ is a celebration of the brightest and the best that is Jaipur —a place where the contemporary and the traditional share a cordial and lasting relationship,” says Alka. The artists showcasing their works at the exhibition include Ankit Patel, Chintan Upadhyay, Gopal Namjoshi, Rohini Singh, Robyn Beeche, Himmat Shah and Siddharth Singh. Ankit Patel’s sculptures in bronze are a visual delight. Meticulously crafted, his creations are lyrical and fluid in their movement and immediately elicit a dialogue with the viewer. Ankit’s wheels speak of an earthy charm; emotions are let loose in fluid motions.

Gopal Joshi’s installation, “Elephantscape”, is an artistic feat. Says the artist about his current presentation: “Elephantscape is a dynamic sculpture that encodes the beauty and collaborative efforts through its shape, form and texture.”

Dharmendra Rathore’s work is influenced by his multifarious exposure and adorns a distinctive style. The festivity in life of the people of Rajasthan and its rustic rural landscape are inspirations for the artist’s creativity.

“The exhibition offers itself as a signpost for the times to come. Recent years have seen an emergence of a different sort — new voices from `Inside’ Jaipur who have gone `Outside’ and connected uniquely. Exhibiting artist at the exhibition Piyush Pande has led creativity in advertising and communication to new heights, while artist Chintan Upadhyaya has brought a new vocabulary to Indian contemporary art, in the international arena. Also increasingly, contemporary artistic voices from Jaipur are creating art that constantly reminds us of the energy contained `Inside’ still bubbling and effervescent,” explains Alka.

Jaipur has often been noticed from the ‘Outside’, bringing to focus and having an impact on the development of tourism and commerce of Rajasthan.
