CHOUTUPPAL (NALGONDA DT.): BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya has demanded that the Government allocate Rs.500 crore to launch the works for the expansion of National Highway - 9 “on war-footing.”

Addressing a public meeting before flagging off the 6-day padayatra undertaken by the party district unit leaders here on Tuesday, he came down heavily on the Congress Government for failing to carry out the works launched by the National Democratic Alliance Government. He charged the local MPs, including the Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy with neglecting the interests of road users.

“Due to the gross negligence of the Congress leaders, 1,500 innocent people have lost their lives and many others maimed in accidents on NH-9,” he said.

Mr.Dattatreya further demanded that the road expansion works must be taken up with Union Government funds instead of adopting the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) system. A team of leaders led by the party district unit president Goli Madhusudan Reddy, the BJYM leader Kasam Venkateswarlu and others took part in the first day of the padayatra that covered 20-km. by night.

The march would culminate at a meeting at Ramapuram near Kodad on April 13.

“During our marchwe would highlight the apathy of the Congress leaders and expose the true colours of the people’s representatives,” Mr. Madhusudan Reddy told The Hindu.
