SAN FRANCISCO: Hewlett-Packard said on Tuesday that it was throwing its weight behind a new class of miniaturised laptops, a fledgling market already populated with products from Intel and Asustek Computers. The industry has not settled on a name for the scaled-down laptops used primarily for surfing the Internet and performing basic functions such as word processing. Intel has labelled them “netbooks,” and it expects more than 50 million of them to be in circulation by 2011. — AP © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
