Sanuth, Shahid excel

KOCHI: Spinners N.E. Sanuth and C.P. Shahid, with four wickets each, excelled in the second Muthoot Pappachan Foundation Twenty20 cricket tournament at the BPCL Kochi Refinery Ground, Ambalamugal, on Wednesday.

Off-spinner Sanuth carried Globstar Telecom to the semifinals with a two-wicket win over Cordiant TCC ‘A’, while left-arm spinner Shahid stood out in Cordiant Sports Foundation’s crushing eight-wicket victory over Murugun CC in a pre-quarterfinal tie. Sambasiva Sharma also came up with an unbeaten half-century (39b, 9x4, 1x6) for the winner.

Another four-wicket haul, by leg-spinner Raveendran, went in vain as Cordiant TCC ‘B’ lost to Thrissur’s Oktopals by 32 runs in another pre-quarterfinal.

The scores: (Quarterfinal): Cordiant TCC ‘A’ (Tripunithura) 81 in 17.3 overs (Ramkumar 32, N.E. Sanuth four for 10) lost to Globstar Telecom CC (Aluva) 84 for eight in 15.3 overs (Vysakh three for 12).

Pre-quarterfinals: Oktopals SC (Thrissur) 120 for nine in 20 overs (Praveen Achuthan 41, Raveendran four for 16) bt Cordiant TCC ‘B’ (Tripunithura) 88 in 19.4 overs (C. Ramesh three for two, Dijin three for 8).

Murugan CC (Thiruvananthapuram) 109 in 19 overs (Mahesh 34, C.P. Shahid four for 14) lost to Cordiant Sports Foundation (Ernakulam) 113 for two in 14.5 overs (Sambasiva Sharma 50 n.o.).

Coaching camp

The annual summer coaching camp of the Thiruvananthapuram District Cricket Association will be held at the Jawahar Nagar ground from April 14. Only players below the age of 17 years will be eligible to attend the camp.
