PUDUKOTTAI: The Ihasan Foundation Trust at Kottaipattinam has urged Union Minister of Finance P. Chidambaram to start a nationalised bank branch at Kottaipattinam. In a memorandum to the Union Minister, Trust president Y. Habibullah said that prawn exporters and Central and State Government employees were hard hit due to the absence of a nationalised bank’s branch and had to rely on a private sector bank. The salary and other allowances of government employees, teachers of the government high and higher secondary schools had to be encashed at the nationalised bank’s branch at Aranthangi, about 30 km from Kottaipattinam, posing a risk to the cashiers of these schools. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
