A total of 55 panchayats, five each in 11 blocks, had been selected to implement the programme VIRUDHUNAGAR: The State Government has allocated Rs. 2.82 crore for Virudhunagar district to implement National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) during 2008-09, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, has said. In a statement, he said that 55 panchayats, five each in 11 blocks, had been selected to implement the programme. So far 14,811 persons had registered for work. Stating that at least 30 per cent of total families in the selected panchayats should be registered to work under the programme, Mr. Chandrasekaran set April 10 as the deadline for officials to achieve the target. The programme guarantees 100 days of job for registered members in a year. The daily wages of Rs. 80 will be disbursed to the workers on Mondays. Asking the members to open an account with the nearest branch of a nationalised bank, Mr. Chandrasekaran said the wages of those who failed to get them on Mondays would be credited to their accounts. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
