Game for scrabble?

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Some see the game as a challenging mind sport, others as something to help improve their analytical abilities. But most just see it as a quiet way to relax. Scrabble, developed during the 1930s depression in America, is now the world’s most popular word game.

Scrabble buffs can prove their mettle at the Bowring Institute Open Scrabble Tournament, organised by the Bowring Institute, in association with Bangalore Scrabble Club, on April 12 and 13. It will be held at the Bowring Institute on St. Mark’s Road. The word source for the tournament will be the new Collins Scrabble Tournament list.

The tourney will begin at 10.30 a.m., and the registration will begin at 9.30 a.m. There will be a separate division for beginners, the “Amateur Division,” on April 13. Children under the age of 11 can participate in a special one-game competition at 10.30 a.m. on April 13.

The competition for the “Advanced Division” begins on April 12 for those who play in national level tournaments.
