Welfare aid given

PUDUKOTTAI: Collector D. Uthirakkumaran distributed welfare assistance to 67 persons belonging to the economically weaker sections during the mass contact programme held at Thanikondan village in Avudaiyarkoil taluk on Wednesday.

He said that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) would be implemented in the rural parts of the district shortly. This scheme will ensure 100 man days of work a year for every family residing in the rural areas. It has been planned to create new ponds, desilt and renovate the existing water sources, lay new roads etc. A sum to the tune of Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 15 lakhs will be spent in each village panchayat for the execution of these development works.
